| Text: | km 51 031 i woke up just before the sunrise. everything was moist from the nights mist, thick fogg was hanging in the air, somewhere between the treetops and the earth. i am not exactly the person to get up early in the morning, mind you! but the atmosphere of this morning was breathtaking. we relit the campfire, cooked coffe and left east, up the gambia river. there were few police controls, and they were nice and easygoing. we arrived the gambian borderpoast around 16:00. it was made of wooden barrs and with the officers not even wearing uniform, we almost didin´t recognise it for what it was. the good thing about it: no hassels at all. „which ist the piste to senegal?“ we asked pointing at two tracks leaving into other directions. „don´t worry!“ said the officer, „frome here everything east goes into senegal. anyway you take will lead you onto the main road to tambakounda“. and so it was. we reached tambacounda just before nightfall and managed to get almost all borderformalities done in town. after the gambian border there was no official senegalese borderpost and all roadblocks told us to get it done in tambacounda. we found a good place to stay, it even offered a swimmingpool!!! |
