| Text: | 53 236 kilometres on the road it was a good, easy going day. i helped mauro with the last touches on his bike, working on the chain and mending little pieces here and there. in the evening we joined les, a middle-aged australian gentleman and traveller, to the goha hotel which is on a hill high above gondar. from there we had an impressive view over the town and its surroundings. les and i shared a passion for graham greene and joseph conrad. we discussed several books while watching a thunderstorm scrape gondar. from our viewpoint we could still see the dark blue evening sky above a black wall of clouds that moved over the town whose houses shone brightly in the descending sun. our group grew bigger as we befriended a french family, then and a japanese girl with her ethiopian boyfriend. they joined us for diner at the 'habesha kitfo' where we occupied two tables which were soon filled with all kinds of delicious ethiopian dishes. it was a great last evening in ethiopia. |
