the rainy season has started with the effect that all the internet cafes had been down for the last couple of days. in this part of the world rain is intimately connected with power failures and broken phone lines.
this morning, however, i was at the internet café and i managed to open my mailbox before the rain managed to interfere. there was a message from mauro saying that he's expecting to arrive in gonder on friday. this means off to sudan on saturday, inshallah!
on the way back to the hotel a scruffy, bald woman, one of the numerous beggars, detached herself from a street corner and approached me with a wicked smile. her teeth pointed out of her mouth in all directions and, despite her being no older than thirty years of age, she was positively appalling.
in order to attract my attention she pulled down her shirt at the collar, presenting a wrinkled breast which she shook at me teasingly. the effect on me was probably contrary to her hopeful expectations as i quickly hastened my pace and escaped.
