| Text: | km 56 731 sebastian picked me up in the morning. he spends every sunday with his son on the beach of assini, close to the ghanian border, and he invited me to come along. he soon left the road and went right for the beach. "i've been driving in this sands every sunday for the past 20 years," he told me while opening a bottle of beer, "i know every dune, and i know where the sand is terribly soft and deep... these are the best parts!" it was great! everybody seemed to know him, and at certain bars along the beach, someone would step out, having yet another bottle of 'flag' for sebastian. "people here can set their watch when i pass by, every sunday, the same time. funny enough, sebastians son started to snooze in his baby chair, as soon as the driving got a bit rough, seems to love it. we spent a great day at the beach and i could get my mind off the fact, that i was going to leave for sierra leone tomorrow. not that i'm too worried, but still, that country has some kind of reputation... |
